PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Two Rhode Island Republican state senators were fined Monday for campaign finance violations.

Sen. Elaine Morgan was fined $1,200 and Sen. Thomas Paolino was fined $2,500.

According to campaign finance audit reports, Morgan was found to have not properly reported individual contributions and expenditures. She was also found to have expended some campaign funds for personal use.

Morgan has amended the campaign finance reports and repaid her campaign funds the personal use amount and was ordered to pay a $1200 fine.

Paolino was subject to an audit after the board said they found “large unreconciled variance between his campaign bank account balance and campaign finance report balance as of Dec. 31, 2021.”

Paolino’s reports have been amended and he agreed to pay a $2500 fine, according to the board report.

ABC 6 News has reached out to a Senate Republican Office spokesperson for comment and are waiting to hear back.
