Two Smithfield public schools lockdown after learning student has weapon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Two schools went into lockdown Thursday after it was discovered that a student was carrying a knife.
Superintendent Dawn Bartz said that Smithfield High School and Pleasant View Elementary School locked down temporary while the incident was investigated.
Bartz added that the student who had the knife was arrested.
Further, the superintendent said that no threats were made to anyone at the school and all students and staff are safe.
The student was arrested as the school district has a zero tolerance policy for weapons.
No additional information was released at this time.
