Two brothers were arrested after allegedly assaulting their neighbors who were recently evacuated during a fire.

When Cranston police officers arrived on scene, the multi-family home on Standish Avenue had visible flames to the first floor. The officers immediately evacuated the residents.

The home next door was also evacuated as a precaution.

Police say a 27-year-old woman who lived next door, attempted to step away from the chaos after being evacuated.  She crossed the street and found a spot on her neighbor’s front yard to make a call.

As she was making her call, 54-year-old Robert Rossi approached her and told her to get off his property.

Officials report that the woman began to leave the property, but Mr. Rossi became hostile towards her as he began to yell and curse. Rossi then pushed her to the ground, hit her twice in the face, then smacked her repeatedly.

When the victim’s cousin crossed the street and pulled Rossi off of her, Rossi’s brother came out of the house. Michael Rossi, 52, approached the woman’s cousin, and punched her in the face.

Both women suffered minor injuries.

Both brothers were taken into custody and are being charged with simple assault, and disorderly conduct.
Court records reveal that Robert Rossi has a history of multiple assault charges.
