Attempt to Cross I-195 Leaves One Dead, One Seriously Injured
Massachusetts State Police have released the name of the woman who was killed early Sunday morning in a fatal pedestrian accident.
Two women were struck shortly after midnight on the southbound section of Route 195.
According to police, Carolyn Clement, 44, of Fall River and Cynthia Clement, 44, also of Fall River had pulled over to the breakdown lane for an unknown reason.
The two then attempted to cross Route 195 on foot.
According to Mass. State Police, Carolyn Clement was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived. She was hit by a 1998 Volkswagen Passat, driven by a 20-year-old man.
Cynthia Clement made it to the center travel lane when she was hit by the side-view mirror of a passing Honda Civic. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
Police did not say whether the two drivers will face charges, but the circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation by the Mass. State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
Police would not comment on whether the two, who share the same last name, are related.
