U.S. marine from Massachusetts killed in Kabul Airport attack to be laid to rest Tuesday
LAWRENCE, Mass. (WLNE) – A U.S. Marine who was killed during the Aug. 26 Kabul Airport attack in Afghanistan will be laid to rest Tuesday.
A private Funeral Mass for Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo will be held Monday at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Lawrence.
Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo and 12 other marines were killed during the Kabul airport attack as they were helping to screen Afghans trying to escape Afghanistan and others at the gate. The 13 servicemen and women were awarded the purple heart.
The body of the 25-year-old landed at Logan International Airport on the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
On Tuesday, there will be a public wake for Sgt. Rosario at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
She’ll be laid to rest at Bellevue Cemetery in a section reserved for military veterans.
