Unemployment rate drops again in RI

Rhode Island job numbers for the month of June show another drop in unemployment, making it the lowest it’s been since November of 2007

The unemployment rate dropped to 5.9%, down one-tenth of a percent from May.

Over the year, the rate is down 1.8% from June of last year.

The jobs report says 33,000 Rhode Islanders are available for and actively seeking employment, the lowest level since October of 2007.

However, the number of RI-based jobs is down 300 from May but up 5,700 from a year ago.  

The number of employed RI residents increased by 2,400 over the month.  

The nationwide unemployment rate was 5.3% in June, down two-tenths of a percent from May.
