United Way ‘Day of Action’ to prepare donated books for children
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The United Way of Rhode Island will take a “Day of Action” Saturday to prepare tens of thousands of books for distribution to local children.
The organization said more than 100 volunteers are set to sort, label and package thousands of books collected during the recent Children’s Book Drive in partnership with Women United and Books Are Wings.
“Thanks to more than 100 locally organized collections and community drop-off locations, this year’s drive generated 20,000 books earlier this spring,” Michael Cerio said.
The books are planned to be given to children participating in summer learning programs statewide.
The organization’s drives have collected more than 272,210 books for Rhode Island children over the last ten years, Cerio added.
