University of Virginia athletes to attend teammates’ funerals via Patriots’ team plane
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — University of Virginia athletes and staff will be brought to the funeral services of three of their teammates by the New England Patriots’ team plane.
On Nov. 13, according to ESPN, three Cavaliers football players were tragically shot and killed on a charter bus on their way back from a class trip.
Their names were Lavel Davis Jr. of Dorchester, South Carolina, Devin Chandler of Huntersville, North Carolina, and D’Sean Perry of Miami, Florida.
ESPN said the entire Virginia football team attended Perry’s funeral Saturday in Miami.
Chandler’s funeral will take place in Virginia Beach on Sunday, and a celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday in North Charleston, South Carolina for Davis.
Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, ESPN said.
Jones is being held without bail in a Charlottesville jail. A case status hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 8.
Due to the death of three teammates, the Virginia University football team has ended their season early.
