Unplanned distance learning day at East Providence High School following positive COVID-19 case

The school which is operating under a hybrid learning plan, alerted parents and students Monday night that the school will be closed Tuesday for a deep cleaning.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – Tuesday will be an impromptu distance learning day for 9th and 11th graders, as well as all staff at East Providence High School after someone at the school tested positive for COVID-19.

The school which is operating under a hybrid learning plan, alerted parents and students Monday night that the school will be closed Tuesday for a deep cleaning.

The superintendent was informed of the positive test of an in-person student by the Rhode Island Department of Health late Monday evening.

And because of the holiday and the lack of time, no contract tracing could be done in time for in-person classes to resume Tuesday, according to EastbayRI.

With Wednesdays each week being distance learning throughout the district, the aim at the moment is for staff and students to return to the high school building on Thursday, Oct. 15.
