Update: Body of missing motorcyclist recovered from Taunton River

The body of a missing motorcyclist that crashed on the Veterans Memorial Bridge is believed to have washed ashore Monday.

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – Massachusetts State Police say the body that was found on Monday evening along the shore of the Taunton River has been identified as 35-year-old Gary Amaral.

Amaral, of Fall River, was ejected into the Taunton River after crashing his motorcycle on the Veterans Memorial Bridge early Sunday morning.

On Monday, authorities say a body washed ashore, but were not able to confirm the identity at the time.

The body was discovered in the vicinity of Riverview Street in Fall River.

The discovery was about 1.5 miles away from the area that was searched by a dive team yesterday, about halfway between the bridge and Rhode Island border.

Search efforts began early Sunday morning, after a motorcycle crashed on the Veterans Memorial Bridge.

A single motorcycle was involved in the crash, according to Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Paul Sullivan.

The Coast Guard said rescue crews from STA Castle Hill and Air Station Cape Cod were looking for the man involved in the crash that happened around 12:30 a.m.

Fall River Police Department and Massachusetts State Police were assisted with the search, according to the Coast Guard.
