EASTON, Mass. (WLNE) – One woman is in custody after a fatal crash Thursday evening in Easton that left two senior citizens dead.

Easton Fire and Police Departments responded to reports of a serious crash at the intersection of Route 138 and Purchase Street around 6:18 p.m. Thursday.

First Responders on scene located two vehicles that had collided with one another.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Dodge Journey was traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 138 when it collided with a second vehicle attempting to turn onto Purchase street.

In Taunton District Court Friday, prosecutors said that a police officer clocked Sheri Vasquez, 33, going 89 mph.

One occupant of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and the other died later after being transported to the hospital. Bristol County DA’s office has identified the victims as a 79-year-old John Masefield and a 77-year-old Virginia Masefield.

Vasquez ended up running off but she was arrested a short time later.

Vazquez is facing five charges, including two counts of homicide.

Outside of court friends, family and Vasquez’s lawyer refused to take questions from reporters.

A judge ordered her held without bail.

She will remain behind bars pending a dangerousness hearing May 22.
