URI Announces Basketball Schedule

KINGSTON, R.I. -The University of Rhode Island released its 2010-11 men's basketball schedule today, highlighted by five nationally televised games. Additionally, a full slate of competitive non-conference and Atlantic 10 games highlight the home schedule at the Thomas M. Ryan Center this year.

On Nov. 8, the Rams open up the college basketball season when they travel to Pittsburgh for a game broadcast on ESPNU. The game is part of the 2K Sports Classic tournament, which benefits Coaches v. Cancer.

Rhody will also be on display for a national audience for three straight games to start the month of January, playing on ESPNU at Florida (Jan. 3), at home versus Xavier to open A-10 play (Jan. 9) and at Richmond (Jan. 13) on CBS College Sports Network.

After two preseason exhibition games – versus Concordia (Que.) on Oct. 29 and Rhode Island College on Nov. 3 – Rhode Island will host its 2010-11 home opener versus Brown on Nov. 16. The Bears are URI's most common opponent, having met 151 times on the hardwood in a series that began in 1910.

Rhody travels to Toledo's Savage Arena from Nov. 19-21 for the final three games of the 2K Sports Classic, taking on College of Charleston, host Toledo, and Illinois-Chicago.

After returning home to host Drexel (Nov. 24) and Davidson (Nov. 27), the Runnin' Rams head up the road to take on Providence in the annual matchup between the two schools. URI play two on the road – at Northeastern (Dec. 8) and at Quinnipiac (Dec. 11) – before taking a week off during the final exam period. On Dec. 18, New Hampshire visits the Ryan Center before a Dec. 29 home date against Boston College.

After the Jan. 3 non-conference finale versus Florida, Rhode Island opens up conference play. The Rams will host eight opponents at the Thomas M. Ryan Center: Xavier (Jan. 3); St. Bonaventure (Jan. 16); La Salle (Jan. 22); Fordham (Feb. 2); Dayton (Feb. 9); Charlotte (Feb. 12); Massachusetts (Feb. 19); and George Washington (March 2).

On the road in league play, Rhody will face Richmond (Jan. 13); Saint Joseph's (Jan. 19); Saint Louis (Jan. 26); Massachusetts (Jan. 30); Temple (Feb. 5); Duquesne (Feb. 23); Fordham (Feb. 26); and St. Bonaventure (March 5).

The three schools that Rhode Island will face both home and away in conference play are Fordham, Massachusetts, and St. Bonaventure.
