URI bars students from returning to dorms

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) The University of Rhode Island issued a statement Thursday telling students not to return to the campus.

In seeking to comply with Governor Gina Raimondo’s executive order requiring travelers from New York to self-quarantine, the university said students should not return to Rhode Island at this time. The direction applies to on-campus residence halls, fraternity and sorority houses, and students living off-campus.

The statement said personal belongings would remain locked inside on-campus residence halls. Any student requiring access to their belongings must first seek permission from the university’s Housing and Residential Life department.

Further instruction will be sent to students’ URI email.

Housing and Residential Life can be reached at  customerservice@housing.uri.edu   or by calling 401-874-4151.
