URI & Brown Visit State House Ahead of 40th Governor’s Cup Showdown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A press conference for the 40th Governor’s Cup between Rhode Island and Brown will be held at the Statehouse Thursday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.

Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee, Rhode Island head coach Jim Fleming and Brown head coach James Perry will each speak about the history of the rivalry and Saturday’s game itself. The teams will meet for the game at URI’s Meade Stadium with a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Joining the coaches will be select players from both teams. Saturday’s contest is the 40th meeting in the Governor’s Cup series, which officially began in 1981. Rhode Island holds a slight 20-19 edge since the Cup was implemented. Overall, it is the 106th time Rhode Island and Brown have played, with Brown leading, 73-30-2.

Rhode Island play-by-play man Steve McDonald will serve as MC of the event.
