How it Happened
No. 14 Rhode Island’s season came to an end with a 73-56 loss to No. 11 La Salle in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Championship Tuesday night.
The combination of La Salle’s work on the glass and URI’s shooting struggles made for a tough night. The Explorers (14-18) outrebounded Rhody 51-32 and had 16 second-chance points on 13 offensive boards. Guard Jhamir Brickus also was strong offensively all night, scoring 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Rhode Island (9-22) shot just 29.8 percent from the floor (17-of-57), including 5-of-21 from the arc. Despite the struggled, the Rams managed to get a 17-point deficit down to eight points on three different occasions – twice after Malik Martin 3-pointers – in the second half, but could not get any closer.
