URI Football Debuts In FCS Top 25 Polls Monday

University of Rhode Island Press Release

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island’s ascent through the national rankings continued despite having a bye over the weekend, as the Rams cracked both the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 and the AFCA FCS Top 25. URI landed at No. 21 in the Stats Perform poll and No. 23 in the AFCA poll, the first appearance inside the top 25 of either poll this season.

In the Stats Perform poll, Rhode Island received 184 points, a major increase from 67 last week. The Rams were comfortably ahead of fellow CAA Football member Richmond, which had 130 points as the No. 22 team.

It was a similar increase in the AFCA poll, where Rhody had 87 points, up from 28 a week earlier. URI is 20 points ahead of both Holy Cross and UT Martin, which tied for 24th in the poll.

CAA Football had six schools ranked this week. James Madison was ranked third and second, respectively, in the Stats Perform and AFCA polls. Delaware (9/10), Villanova (12/9) and Richmond (22/21) all appear in both polls with Rhode Island. New Hampshire is No. 25 in the Stats Perform poll and receiving votes in the AFCA poll, where it is No. 27 overall.

The Rams look to open the season 4-0 for the first time since 2001 when they host Stony Brook on Saturday, Oct. 2.
