URI Hoops It Up Against RIC in Final Exhibition

KINGSTON, R.I. – Sophomore Nikola Malesevic scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Rhode Island men's basketball team to a 88-55 victory over Rhode Island College Wednesday night in the Rams' final tune-up for the regular season.

Sophomore Ryan Brooks, senior Delroy James and fellow senior Marquis Jones also finished in double figures with 15, 14 and 13 points, respectively. James led the team with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Neither team lead by more than six points for the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Rams began to catch fire just under the 10 minute mark as they began a 7-0 run to build a 30-18 lead with 6:39 to go in the first half.

RIC fought back to cut the lead to five at 32-27 with 3:31 to go in the opening half, but URI responded with a 10-0 run to close out the opening 20 minutes and take a 42-27 lead into the locker room.

Jones led all URI scorers with 11 first points. The New Jersey native connected on 4-of-7 shots from the field, while James pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.

In the second half, URI charged out to a 64-39 lead with just under 10 minutes to go in the game. James and Malesevic combined for 10 points during the stretch, which gave the Rams their largest lead of the game.

Malesevic led the Rams with 16 second-half points, connecting on 4-of-7 shots from the field.

URI went on to open up a 31-point lead at 81-50 with 3:05 to go in the game to secure the win.
