URI Men’s Basketball Announces 2023-2024 Non-Conference Schedule

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island announced its complete 13-game non-conference schedule for the 2023-24 season on Thursday.
In the second season with Archie Miller at the helm, the Rams will play eight regular-season home games, three neutral-site contests and a pair of true road games. The slate kicks off with three consecutive Ryan Center games, starting on Nov. 6 against Central Connecticut State from the Northeast Conference. The opener will be followed by contests against the MAAC’s Fairfield (Nov. 9) and the NEC’s Wagner (Nov. 14). Based on the final NET rankings from 2022-23, Rhode Island’s preseason schedule includes three Quad 1 games and a pair of Quad 2 contests. Those five games come in a 23-day span from mid-November into the second week of December. It is a stretch that includes at least three games against NCAA Championship teams from last season (Northwestern, Providence, College of Charleston). A fourth NCAA tournament team – Mississippi State – looms as a possibility. There are either one or two games against NIT squads from a year ago (Washington State, Yale) during the key run as well. The first two major tests for the Rams will during the Hall of Fame Tip-Off at Mohegan Sun. Rhode Island opens against Big 10 member Northwestern (NET 37) on Nov. 18. The following night, URI will face either the SEC’s Mississippi State (NET 53) or the PAC-12’s Washington State (NET 79). After a date with Division III Johnson & Wales on Nov. 22, Rhody hosts a pair of Ivy League opponents that are sandwiched around the annual rivalry game at Providence College (NET 56) on Dec. 2. The first Ivy opponent will be Yale (NET 65) on Nov. 26 before in-state opponent Brown (NET 183) visits on Dec. 6. The Yale game is the start of a three-year series in which the Bulldogs return to the Ryan Center next season before hosting URI in 2025-26. The next two games are away from home against CAA schools. On Dec. 10, Rhody visits the College of Charleston (NET 52) for the start of a home-and-home series. Coming off a 31-4 season and a trip to the NCAA Championship, the Cougars are scheduled to visit URI in 2024-25. The Rams stay on the road for a neutral-site game against Delaware as part of the Holiday Hoopfest being held on Dec. 16 at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y. The game is part of a tripleheader that includes Saint Joseph’s against Iona and Towson versus Bryant. Rhode Island will be home for the final two non-conference games of the regular season. Both will be against regional opponents, as the America East’s New Hampshire visits on Dec. 21 and the CAA’s Northeastern comes to town on Dec. 30. URI also will host Assumption in an exhibition game on Nov. 1.
