BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Brayon Freeman was one of 18 players named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team, which was announced Thursday morning at the conference’s media day.

Freeman – transferred to Rhode Island from George Washington – earned a spot on the third team. Last season, he was an A-10 All-Rookie Team selection while with the Colonials.

As a freshman, Freeman averaged 10.3 points, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Among Atlantic 10 rookies last season, Freeman was second in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio, third in steals and fourth in points per game, ranking in the top 15 overall in the league in each category.

In the process, he became the first GW rookie since Carl Elliott in 2003-04 to contribute at least 100 assists in a single season.

Also announced Thursday was the Atlantic 10 preseason poll. Rhode Island was picked to finish ninth in voting amongst the league’s head coaches and media members.

The Rams received 203 points in the poll, one spot behind Massachusetts, which had 228 points. Dayton was picked to win the league. The Flyers earned 22 of 29 first-place votes and had 428 points overall. Saint Louis got the other seven first-place votes and was second overall with 411 points.
