URI Rams Fall On Senior Night

KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island got double-doubles from Jamal Wilson (13 points/11 rebounds) and Delroy James (12 points/11 rebounds) in a 66-55 loss to George Washington on Wednesday night.

Prior to the game, the Rams' (18-11; 9-6 A-10) four seniors – James, Marquis Jones, Will Martell and Ben Eaves – were honored as part of Senior Night.

The two teams traded baskets during the first nine minutes of play, before scoring six unanswered points – capped by an Orion Outerbridge jumper with 10:18 left in the half – which made it 17-10, Rams.

George Washington would respond with an 18-4 push over the next eight minutes, taking its largest lead of the period – seven points – at 28-21 with 2:22 to go. The Colonials would take a 32-29 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, GW would build an 11-point lead with 10:56 to go in regulation. But the Rams mounted a 10-2 run over the next 5:20, capped by two free throws from Wilson which made it 50-47 with 5:35 left.

But that was as close as it would get, as GW closed out the game on a 16-7 run. The Colonials outrebounded Rhode Island, 31-30, and forced 19 turnovers.

Jones added 12 points and four assists in 38 minutes of play, while Nikola Malesevic tallied nine points. Eaves added five points and four rebounds in 20 minutes of action.

Rhode Island closes out the regular season on Saturday when it travels to St. Bonaventure for a 2 p.m. tipoff. The game can be seen live locally on Cox Sports Television, as part of the CBS College Sports regional package.
