URI Rams Lose Game and Could Lose Hassan Martin
DAVIDSON, N.C. — (AP) Peyton Aldridge scored 24 points and Davidson defeated Rhode Island 65-54 on Tuesday night for the Wildcats’ third consecutive victory.
Aldridge was 6 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Jack Gibbs, who came into the game as the nation’s third-leading scorer at 25.3 points per game, had 16 for Davidson (17-9, 9-6 Atlantic 10), which shot only 42 percent but was 41 percent from the arc on 9-of-22 shooting. Nathan Ekwu grabbed 11 rebounds.
Jared Terrell was the only Rhode Island (15-13, 7-8) player to score in double figures with 13 points. Kuran Iverson grabbed 10 rebounds. The Rams shot only 34 percent and just 23 percent from 3-point range. Hassan Martin played just nine minutes before leaving the game. Martin is battling tendonitis in high right knee and could but shut down for the season.
The Rams led only at 4-3. Davidson had a 32-24 halftime lead and took its biggest lead of 16 points, 62-46, on Gibbs’ jumper with three minutes remaining.
