URI news release…

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island junior Tyler Wilson has been named to the Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-America Team, announced Monday afternoon by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. It is the first preseason All-America award for the Palmer, Mass. native, who also checked in at #74 on D1baseball.com’s listing of the nation’s top collegiate prospects for the 2017 MLB Draft.

Wilson, an ABCA and Perfect Game First-Team All-American in 2016, was one of just three Atlantic 10 players recognized by Collegiate Baseball, joining VCU reliever Sam Donko (First Team) and Saint Joesph’s catcher Deon Stafford (Third Team) as the conference’s preseason All-Americans.

After just two seasons with the Rams, Wilson is easily the most decorated baseball player in Rhode Island history. Included among his lengthy list of accolades are five All-America awards, two National Player of the Week nods and NCAA All-Regional Team honors. The two-time Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year finished his sophomore season ranked second in the nation in wins (13), third in hits allowed per nine innings (4.66) and fifth in WHIP (0.84).

Wilson enters his junior year with an overall record of 19-4. His career ERA of 2.23 ranks first all-time at URI while he is tied for sixth in career wins and is eighth all time in career strikeouts (197).

The Rams open their 2017 campaign at McNeese State’s Lake Area Classic, Feb. 17-19. Rhody is set to face Missouri State on Friday, McNeese State on Saturday and Stony Brook on Sunday.
