Vacation Week Activities

Friday marks the kickoff of vacation week! And, if you're looking for something to do — or to keep the kids busy —  we have you covered.

The RISD museum of art has all sorts of programs and fun workshops, design labs and sketching lessons. And, the best part: They're all free with museum admission.

It's also time for Newport's Winterfest. There, you can find a chili cook-off, chicken wing competition, children's fair, live music and even a comedy show. Events run through the weekend.

In Fall River, Battleship Cove is offering special programs and reduced prices. There's “The Pearl Harbor Experience.” It's the site's newest exhibit. They also offer scavenger hunts, workshops and show cartoons.

And, if mom and dad are looking for something to do this weekend, why not take in a professional dance performance?

Festival Ballet Providence is once again hosting its “Up Close On Hope” series.

The events take place at the ballet's intimate, 90-seat “Black Box Theatre” on Hope Street.

The dancers are so close to the audience, you can almost touch them!

“Up Close On Hope” is Friday and Saturday night and continues for the following two weekends.

And, don't forget about the Providence Children's Film Festival.

It's the only festival in New England dedicated to children's films. Complete with a kids film jury, the event lasts six days total and offers film-making workshops and independent films for children, youth and teens.
