Veterans in-need receive holiday food donations

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE)  Veterans in-need received food supplies in Woonsocket on Saturday.

One of the stops made by USA4Vets was outside the American Legion Post 85 building.

Volunteers offloaded 20,000 lbs. of non-perishable food items, like canned vegetables and macaroni to help veterans and their families at the American Legion.

“The veterans appreciate it,” veteran Joseph Rattie said. “It’s been difficult, but we’re staying positive.”

Don Cox, who heads up USA4Vets, and is a veteran himself, said their trucks made multiple stops in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

“It’s gratifying to be helping veterans. There’s no need that our veterans should be suffering the way they are with food insecurity and problems they’re having, because they raised their right hand. They did what they were supposed to do, and it’s not their fault they’re having a hard time making ends meet,” Cox said.

Food will continue to be handed out through Christmas. Click here for more information.
