Video shows man stealing from Providence convenience store

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A family-owned business in Providence was robbed early Wednesday morning.

The owner of Eastside Mart, a convenience store at the corner of Lloyd and Elmgrove avenues, said the robbery happened just before 5 a.m.

The owner has owned the business since 2005. He told ABC 6 News the thieves smashed a window with a rock and then climbed into the store.

One person then entered with an empty pillowcase and went right for the cigarettes, Smith said. The store owner said the suspect took between 50 to 100 packs.

After alarms began to go off inside of the store, the suspect climbed back out, got into a car, and sped off. The owner said police got to the scene just moments after.

He said there was another person in the vehicle who was caught on camera. Neighbors said they heard the sound of tires screeching and glass breaking.

The incident is under investigation.
