Visiting the River Otters at RWP Zoo

Chelsea Priest is back at Roger Williams Park Zoo in the Faces of the Rainforest.

Chelsea Priest is  back at Roger Williams Park Zoo in the Faces of the Rainforest. In this month’s visit she met with Melissa Ciccarello, the zoo keeper responsible for the giant river otters. Two giant otters live at RWP zoo, Romo and Fernando. Romo is almost 8 years old and Fernando is 6 years old, they are actually brothers.

Amazon giant otters are an endangered spices due to industry and gold mining restricting where they can live in South America and also due to hunting because they are a threat to area fishermen.

The two otters at the zoo put on quite a show when you are visiting by splashing around and making loud noises to get your attention, especially when food is in sight!

The zoo is open every day from 10AM-4PM. You can find more information on visiting the zoo at rwpzoo.org.
