Wareham fire leaves one cat dead, home heavilydamaged

WAREHAM, Mass. (WLNE)- An overnight fire in Wareham left one cat dead, and a house heavily damaged early on Monday morning.

The Wareham Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on Long Boat Road at around 2:17 a.m.

Responding firefighters were told by police that the home was heavily involved in fire.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to knock down the fire.

The residents of the home had two house cats, one died in the fire, while the other, Jasmine, was rescued by firefighters.

Jasmine received oxygen treatment from fire and rescue officials at the scene.

The home sustained heavy damage and a neighboring home suffered minor damage.

All three of the adult residents made it out of the fire without injury.

The Red Cross will help to shelter the family.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials do not believe it to be suspicious.
