DMV Adds Second Day in Warren; Some Services Suspended Monday
After last week's closure of the Middletown location of the RI DMV, the other nearby locations – especially Warren – have seen a dramatic increase in customers, which end in longer wait times.
To combat that, Governor Chafee's office has directed the DMV to open the Warren branch for another day out of the week, to better serve customers, until a replacement for the closed Middletown branch is found.
Beginning immediately, the Warren location will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
The other nearby location, Wakefield, added a fifth day of operation immediately after the Middletown closure.
Also, the RI DMV has announced that some services will be unavailable on Monday, February 21st, while the nation-wide computer system undergoes an upgrade. Services will resume as normal on Tuesday. The affected services, for all RI DMV locations (including AAA offices) are:
· Driver licenses, permits, renewals, duplicates, updates
· CDL licenses, endorsements, renewals, duplicates, updates
· State-issued IDs, duplicates, renewals, updates
· Reinstatements of suspended licenses (Operator Control)
· Any driver or CDL permit written testing or endorsements
As far as road testing:
“The system upgrade will not impact road tests that have been scheduled at the DMV's Melrose Street facility (325 Melrose St., Providence 02907). All road testing scheduled for Monday, February 21, will be done from the Melrose Street facility. At the time of the road test on Monday, successful applicants will have their temporary licenses mailed to them or may make arrangements to pick up temporary licenses from any DMV location after Monday, February 21.”
