Warwick man dies following crash on Rt. 95 in West Greenwich Sunday

SCITUATE, RI (WLNE) – A 19-year-old Warwick man has died following a crash on Route 95 North in West Greenwich Sunday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 2 that the car Mello was driving was seen traveling northbound on Route 95 in West Greenwich when it went off road, and struck a tree.

The impact from hitting the tree caused Gadge Mello, 19, and a juvenile passenger who were not wearing seat belts to be ejected from the car, state police say.

Both Mello and the minor were taken to Rhode Island Hospital for their injuries.

State Police say Mello, 19, was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital on Monday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that speed appears to be a factor, according to state police.

The accident remains under investigation.
