Police: 3 men assaulted possibly with golf club and baseball bat at Oakland Beach

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick police said Wednesday that three men were assaulted possibly with weapons at Oakland Beach.

The assault happened at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived to Oakland Beach, Det. Lt. Stephanie Giblin said they found several people at the scene, including three men who had been injured.

Two of the men were taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for injuries. One of them has since been released, Giblin said.

The other male who is in the hospital is in stable condition.

Police said that a golf club and a baseball bat were possibly used in the assault.

The names of those involved were not immediately released.

“We usually clear all City owned/operated parks at dusk and lock the gate (if so equipped),” said Maj. Andrew Sullivan. “Sometimes our patrol officers get tied up with other priority calls and the aforementioned task is delayed. This helps prevent people from loitering in parks after dark.”

The incident is under investigation.
