Warwick Police Officer saves family from house fire

A Warwick Police Officer is being credited with helping a family escape a fire in their home after he observed it on fire.

Police say Officer David Waddington was patrolling the area of 975 Narragansett Parkway just after 12:30 a.m. when he observed a fire at the residence.

Waddington was able to evacuate the family of four, 2 adults and 2 children, as well as 2 dogs from the home. One cat is still missing.

The male resident was treated for smoke inhalation and a firefighter was transported to Kent Hospital with minor injuries. No one else was hut.

The Red Cross is assisting the family with shelter.
