Warwick Police SWAT Team Places 4th at SWAT Competition

The Warwick Police Department's SWAT team placed 4th at a regional SWAT competition last week.

The 2010 Connecticut SWAT Challenge brought 40 teams from around the country to compete for three days in a number of events that test officers' physical fitness, marksmanship, and teamwork abilities. Lieutenant Thomas Hannon tells ABC6 that the Warwick unit placed 2nd in three of the seven total events.

Competitors included federal, military, state and local tactical teams such as the Massachusetts and Connecticut State Police, Connecticut Army National Guard, New Bedford Police Department and Hartford Police Department.

Many of the top teams are full-time units, whereas Warwick's unit is staffed by officers with other day-to-day assignments.
