WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Warwick community came out in support of a local 3-year-old with a rare form of cancer on Sunday.

Brock Nowicki, who is from West Greenwich, is going through chemotherapy for a rare soft tissue sarcoma, called CIC-DUX4.

There are only 243 known cases of this type of cancer in the world.

A pasta dinner was organized by Stefanie Campopiano at Mirabella’s Italian Cucina to help Brock’s family with medical expenses and to honor Campopiano’s late son Matthew, who died at 18-years-old from the same disease.

Campopiano met Brock’s family in a Facebook support group and bonded immediately.

“I promised my son five years ago to never stop fighting for a cure for this, or a treatment of its own, and when I met them, not because they’re Rhode Islanders, but I can’t explain it, I just knew they were the family this year that I was helping,” she said.

A GoFundMe was also set up for any interested donors.
