WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – After a marathon City Council meeting ended in a vote to fund sports and other programs at Warwick Schools, Mayor Joseph Solomon said he’s confident that things will change for the better.

The School Committee voted on Tuesday night to approve the City Council’s $4 million plan.

What started as a $1.3 million resolution to ensure funding for after-school sports later became a $4 million plan aiming to fund seventeen different school priorities, passed unanimously

“Everyone was agreeable to it,” said Councilman Anthony Sinapi. “I didn’t expect that, to be perfectly honest.”

Councilman Anthony Sinapi helped craft the proposal in an effort to save school sports as well as 16 other priorities the School Committee has on its plate.

“The School Committee, the City Council and the Mayor’s office are all on the same page,” said Warwick Mayor Joseph Solomon.

The resolution now heads back to the City Council for final approval.
