Warwick Schools will lay off 65 teachers at the end of this year as part of the school systems consolidation.

The School Committee voted to lay the teachers off Tuesday night.

Superintendent Philip Thornton calls it unfortunate and does not reflect the quality of the teachers being laid off.

The School Committee voted last June to close Gorton and Aldrich Middle Schools. Warwick Vets High School will become a junior high.
