According to published reports a teacher at Veterans Memorial High School in Warwick is on administrative leave after having consensual sex with a 16-year-old female student.

The girl came forward last month saying she and her 44-year-old science teacher drove to Jamestown and had consensual sex in his car. According to the police report investigators discovered nearly 40 e-mails and text messages between the two showing there was no coercion or force. Police dropped the case saying there was no crime committed because the girl is of age.

Warwick school committee policy clearly states that staff-student relations are prohibited. The teacher will remain on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

This is not the first time the student claimed to have inappropriate relations with a teacher. Last year she reported having a sexual relationship and doing drugs with two other teachers. Those claims were investigated by the school and deemed unfounded.
