Washington Bridge North project set to begin Friday
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The first phase of traffic changes for the $78 million Washington Bridge North project is set to begin Friday, December 17.
Repairs of the westbound portion of the bridge is meant to provide economic development and address congestion issues.
Narrowing and closing of lanes are expected to take place Friday and create to create safe work zones.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation encourages that drivers plan extra time for travel, consider alternate routes, or shift travel to outside busiest periods.
I-195 West traffic and for those entering I-195 West using the on-ramp from Taunton Avenue, Veterans Memorial Parkway, and Warren Avenue will be affected.
The department will be installing traffic sensors at various locations through the I-195 corridor in East Providence so that travels will see real-time travel information.
There will be other changes as well to provide more capacity on I-195 during the construction.
