“We can do this, RI!”: Smokey Bear requests letters from Rhode Islanders
By News Staff
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WLNE) – A national icon who has received letters from children and fans around the country for years says that Rhode Islanders have some catching up to do.
Longtime wildfire prevention mascot Smokey Bear announced in a tweet Monday that he has received letters from children in every U.S. State except for Rhode Island.
Smokey asked Rhode Islanders to send messages to a special ZIP code designated by the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Postal Service specifically for letters to Smokey.
Smokey Bear has served as the Forest Service’s symbolic mascot of fighting forest fires since 1944.
Rhode Islanders who want to send a letter to Smokey can address the envelope to Smokey Bear, Washington, D.C. 20252.
