FALL RIVER – Police have issued an advisory to the public regarding traffic and parking at the July 4 fireworks display on Sunday at Heritage State Park.
From 7 to 11 p.m., police will not be changing any current traffic patterns in and around the area of the park, said Lt. Charles Cullen, commanding officer of the detail.
Police will be assigned to the busiest intersections to assist with safely directing motor vehicles through intersections, he said.
A police command post will be located at the entrance to the park visitors center at 100 Davol St.
It is recommended that motorists arrive early to find parking close to the park. Handicapped parking will be available in the park's lot on Davol Street, and south of the parking lot on Davol Street in the designated handicapped parking area.
Cullen said parking violations will be strictly enforced. He advised motorists to be mindful of blocking fire hydrants and private driveways, double parking, parking on crosswalks and within 20 feet of a corner to obstruct traffic.
“With the possibility of 50,000 people attending this event, cooperation from citizens is imperative to ensure the safety of everyone,” he said.
Any questions pertaining to the event may be directed to Cullen at 508-676-8511, Ext. 173.
Should the fireworks be canceled due to inclement weather, the same plans will be effective on Monday, July 5. For any cancellation information, do not call the police department. Announcements will be made on radio station WSAR 1480 AM.
