Weed treatment for Richmond pond set for Monday

RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said that Carolina Trout Pond in Richmond will be receiving a second treatment to control infestations of invasive aquatic weeds starting Monday.

RIDEM said that the treatment at the popular fishing spot will specifically target water hyacinth and will not harm fish or other aquatic species.

Signs will be posted about temporary restrictions during the treatment.

Boaters should  avoid using the pond on treatment day pets should not drink from the water for at least three days.
