‘Welcome to Connecticut’ sign stolen just over Rhode Island border

VOLUNTOWN, Conn. (WLNE) — The Connecticut Department of Transportation said a “Welcome to Connecticut” sign has been stolen in Voluntown, right at the Rhode Island border.

A spokeswoman said the Department of Transportation noticed the sign was missing last week on Route 165 in Voluntown, which borders Exeter.

The spokeswoman said the 24 foot by 66 foot sign will cost $300 to replace.

The sign is expected to be replaced Friday.

Anyone with information about the sign’s disappearance is asked to call Connecticut State Police.
