West Greenwich man facing child molestation charges

WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — An 81-year-old West Greenwich man is facing charges of child molestation after his arrest on Saturday.

The arrest of Robert Leonard was the result of a joint investigation between the Coventry and West Greenwich Police Departments.

Officials said during their investigation, they learned Leonard had allegedly molested a juvenile that he knew, multiple times in the towns of West Greenwich and Coventry.

Police said the incidents occurred over the span of over two years.

After police took Leonard into custody, he was arraigned and charged with one charge each of first-degree and second-degree child molestation and indecent exposure for the alleged crimes in West Greenwich.

Leonard is also facing a charge of second degree child molestation from Coventry.

He was ordered held without bail and held at the Adult Correctional Institution awaiting a status hearing on August 15.
