West Side Group Questions Providence School Board’s Closure Vote

The West Side Public Education Coalition said Thursday that the Providence School Board's vote tonight on school closures comes after “a flawed and rushed process.”
The school board will vote on each of the six proposed school closings.
The coalition, a grassroots community group on Providence's west side, claims the school board is taking the vote “without the necessary data or time to accurately assess its impact.”
“It is unacceptable that the school board has been given less than a week, in some cases a few days or hours, to review data provided by the school department,” says Judi Jeroslow, WSPEC member and parent. “Especially when the data is riddled with inconsistencies, based on unknowns and assumptions, and being provided at the last hour.”
