WEST WARWICK. R.I. (WLNE) — A West Warwick man was arrested for driving drunk  with a baby in the car. That 20-month-old is now with family members but the DCYF has been put on alert.
Luckily no one was hurt as police got reports of an erratic driver in Warwick and Cranston. They finally caught up with 38-year-old Richard Rego when he was just a minute from his house

Police say his blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit when he was pulled over on Linden Drive a little past 9 on Wednesday night.

In the car with him was a 20-month-old baby.

The arrest happened just a few blocks from his house.

Rego was in District Court Thursday but asked that his case be transferred to Superior Court so that he can have a jury trial. Court documents show he was released on $1,000 personal recognizance but when we went by his house, no one answered the door.

Neighbors say they’re surprised and they’ve seen him out in the yard with his kid.

No exact date has been set for his next court appearance.
