West Warwick man charged after wife’s murder

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)- A man has been arrested after his wife’s murder last Tuesday night.

Officers from the West Warwick Police Department as well as the West Warwick and Coventry Regional SWAT team responded to River Farms Drive at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

When the SWAT team entered the house they found two 74-year-olds, Martin and Marcia Hughes, that were both suffering from bullet wounds.

Marcia was pronounced dead at the scene and the Martin was transported to the hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

After further investigation, it was determined that Mr. Hughes had murdered his wife.

He was charged with domestic first-degree murder, and firing in a compact area.

Mr. Hughes is currently being held without bail.
