Whale freed after being trapped for three days in fishing equipment off Cape Cod coast

PROVINCETOWN, Mass. (WLNE) – It took three days but a humpback whale that was tangled up in fishing equipment off the coast of Provincetown in Cape Cod has been freed.

According to the Center for Coastal Studies, the whale named ‘Valley’ was first spotted by a whale watch boat on Monday.

An entanglement crew found she had a heavy line lodged in her mouth that they could not remove.

Rescuers ended up using a hook-shaped knife attached to a 30 foot pole to free Valley and she happily swam away.
