Whitehouse questions former Gov. Chafee’s run for president

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse says that after watching Lincoln Chafee in the Democratic presidential debate, he still can’t figure out why the former Rhode Island governor is running for president.
Whitehouse, also a Rhode Island Democrat, stopped short of saying Chafee should drop out of the race.
Whitehouse says he doesn’t know what Chafee is trying to accomplish.
Chafee’s candidacy has gained no apparent traction with likely voters.
Whitehouse supports Hillary Rodham Clinton for president and says Chafee has “zero chance” of winning.
In the Tuesday night debate, Whitehouse says Clinton “hit it out of the park so hard,” that the “ball is still flying.”
Whitehouse says it was Clinton’s night and to some extent, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ night, and no one else made a difference.
