Widespread Flooding in Southern New England
After a soaker of a Sunday with most areas experiencing 1-3 inches of rainfall, widespread flooding is occurring. A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Rhode Island, except for Block Island and southeastern Massachusetts through 7:45 pm and 9:30 pm this evening respectively. Sunday finishes up with more rounds of locally heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms leading to a Flood Warning for the Pawtuxet River at Cranston. The flood stage for this river is 9 ft. It is forecast to ride above flood stage this evening and crest at 9.8 feet Monday morning, putting surrounding areas in minor flood. The focus of heavy rain will slowly shift eastward this evening and tonight with the rain finally ending after midnight. It will still be warm in the lower-70s and muggy overnight with patches of fog. Monday looks much brighter with mostly sunny skies and hot highs in the mid to upper-80s. There is also a moderate risk of rip currents along the beaches Monday. Tuesday will see a few more clouds with a chance of late day showers. Wednesday will be sunny with slightly less humid conditions and Thursday looks good too. We finish out the week with more clouds and the chance of showers Friday and Saturday.
