Winning design for Crook Point Bridge announced

Crook Point Bascule Bridge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)-The City of Providence Department of Planning and Development along with Mayor Jorge Elorza announced the winner of the design contest for the Crook Point Bridge on Wednesday.

The design by the Horsley Witten Group & Jonathan Harris includes a waterfront public space, lights and art on the “stuck up bridge,” renovated shorelines, and land for new housing.

“This remarkable vision combines our history with our future, repurposing the structure as an illuminated beacon for residents and visitors to enjoy for generations to come,” said Mayor Elorza.

Horsley Witten Group & Jonathan Harris will receive a $10,000 prize as the contest’s winner.

The bridge opened in 1908 and shut down in 1976 when it was left in an upright position to allow water traffic to pass.
