Woman arrested for alleged machete attack in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I (WLNE) – Police arrested a Newport woman for allegedly swinging a machete at her neighbor on Tuesday.

Police were dispatched to an apartment Maple Avenue at 7:46 AM for a reported dispute, in which one person showed a sharp weapon in hand. 

Police arrested 30-year-old Valerie Stone and she was charged with felony assault, disorderly conduct, and vandalism. 

The department says there was an outstanding bench warrant for Stone from Third District Court. 

No injuries have been reported at this time, but police noted several gouge marks on the apartment staircase.
